Further Advice
You must report the scam to the police via Action Fraud and complain to your bank as soon as possible after the scam. If you do make a complaint, then you have 6 months to complain to the Financial Ombudsman’s Service if your claim is rejected by the bank.
You usually have 6 years in which to issue court proceedings from the date you became aware of the scam.
We understand that this is a very distressing time for you. Please be very careful as scammers often tend to retarget previous victims a few months or even sometimes years after the initial scam. Be vigilant, and if in doubt, do not send money. Discuss it with friends, family, the police, or your bank if you think it is a scam before proceeding with any payment. If in doubt, then do not send money.

Complaining Yourself
If you have a low-value claim, then we would advise you to complain to your bank using our template letter below if you believe that you have been an innocent victim of a scam. Please complete your personal details, provide details of your losses, and how the scam occurred, and then post or email it to your bank’s complaint and/or Fraud Team. You can also use this complaint letter with any other companies that have been involved in the scam. Simply amend the details when referring to a bank with another financial organization.
